Try SAM Animation which is a stop-motion animation software researched and developed at Tufts University. It is a great tool for digital storytelling and can be applied to any subject and any grade level!

These are some great videos that show the power of sequencing events and creating digital stories. Sequencing is a good activity activity for kids (and adults) because it breaks down the steps of an action or process and can help you assess whether a child understands the concept well.
Were these videos created as part of a digital storytelling class or as a different activity?
Storybird is a powerful digital storytelling tool. I have had teachers create the story with their class and instantlypublish it by playing it on their Interactive Whiteboard. It offers so many characters/pictures to choose from, it is very colorful and pretty easy to use. The only feature it is missing is the option to print. I usually take screenshots and staple it together after I print it but that is alot of work for the normal individual.
Thanks for the shout-out, Karen!
Glad to see you're enjoying SAM - if you or your students want to share your creations, post in the iCreate Intel group and also share it with the iCreate gallery at www.icreatetoeducate.com/gallery

Susan, have you tried the time lapse feature on SAM yet? It is amazing! Here is one of my favorite videos from Melissa The time lapse video was set to watch a plant overnight - awesome! PLANTS MOVE AT NIGHT!
Plus just tonight a friend posted a video of Ron Garan and his crew at the International Space Shuttle using time lapse to capture flying over Earth, from Space! Breathtaking! Fragile Oasis Video & Blog Post
Ask your students to explain what is happening and encourage them to create their own digital time lapse stories!
