Happy, happy second birthday to the Engage Community!
I was in the room with a group of Intel Senior Trainers in early January of 2010...we were told that it was a goal of the new community to have 10,000 members by the time we would meet again a year hence: January of 2011. In my own head, I thought that was unreasonably high, but I agreed to help to make it come true.
Throughout that year I facilitated courses, moderated in the community, and greeted new members. Rather quickly, I saw that the goal was reachable!
What I hadn't really known was the reach and scope of Intel Teach(R) throughout the world. As I have worked in the community, I have met new friends from all over the world, seen the education systems at work throughout the world, and learned from fellow educators here in the U.S.
This community is fabulous, and I know that it is guided by committed, informed, eager educators. I know that it will continue to grow exponentially (there are now nearly 24,000 members) and become an even stronger resource for educators worldwide.
And in keeping with the thought-provoking entries throughout the community, here's a little mathmematical birthday comment: "When I turned two I was really anxious, because I’d doubled my age in a year. I thought, if this keeps up, by the time I’m five I’ll be 64."
Now, bring on the party!
The whole thing was great and a terrific introduction to the range of opportunities this community offers. Thanks to Smoke, Vanessa, Theresa, Julia, and everyone who participated. I know I really want to learn more about how people are using the Teaching Tools with students and begin thinking about how I can use them in my own work.
One of the funnest parts was when we tried to "crash the webinar" by having everyone turn on their webcams at once. It was pretty to cool to see the faces of colleagues all over the world, and Abode Connect's performance was impressive. I think we were able to keep going with over twenty video windows open. The webinar times fall during my son OIiver's regularly scheduled bath/story/sleep ritual, so he joined me for part of the event. You can see him on my lap in the attached screenshot of the "crash."
Happy Birthday Day Intel......http://voicethread.com/share/2463592/
I hope I did this right!!!!
Congratulations Aaron! Your name was drawn as the winner of the Kindle Fire (look for an email with details). Thank you, everyone, for all the fun wishes; we will have a similar thread same time, same place next year. Look through Engage for other incentivized threads--it is like a very fun treasure hunt!.
So, I have been teaching a signing club at my school. I have taught the students in my class the Birthday Song. I thought you would like to learn this easy version to share with your students. I hope this uploads. I have been trying to figure out how to get this on, so let's see if this works.
