I started this project using VoiceThread. I created a review of muscle and how to stretch each muscle. I then changed it to a power point presentation. Students watched the muscle review using voice thread. I have also created a power point muscle review for muscles. Students are asked to start the power point presentation when they rotate to this sation in the gym. They are expected to watch and learn the name and location of each muscle. They will quiz them self during the power point. I have the Power Point projecting on the wall near the cafeteria. Students can see this everyday they walk to and from the cafeteria, art and music classrooms.
I love the voicethread. I was wondering if you plan to share your digital experiences with other PE teachers. Perhaps at one of your group meetings or district-wide PD. I think that there are many specialist who use technology, but few of them share with others...or it is hard to find other who will take the leap of faith and listen open-mindedly.
I have email my voice thread and power point presentation to the PE curriculum coordinator. All PE teachers in Austin were given a projector at the beginning of the school year. Our PE Coordinator and PE Curriculum coordinator are interested in how we are using them. I have also shared with our travel PE teacher. I am planning a presentation at our PE organization's next meeting. I am going to share both my projects with them. I am still trying to figure out how to use iremote in the gym. I am unable to connect to my computer with iremote. I believe the firewall is protecting my computer from this useful app. Please let me know if you have used iRemote in your classroom.
What an excellent idea of how technology can benefit students in the Gym. I remember another teacher showing me a PowerPoint he used to teach students the process of shooting a Basketball. I think it is important to consider all aspects of technology - not just the "mainstream" classes where we usually see technology used.
Is anyone still looking at this thread? My presentation to district PE teachers went well. I have figured out how to use iRemote in my gym. I had to un-check 'Remote Management' in my systems folder and I also had to be logged into our district internet but not as a guest on my iPad.
There are many talented PE teachers in Austin who have created and shared wonderful power points to use in the gym. I can see the same idea created in classroom that will increase physical activity time while reviewing for a test. Visit my Wiki to see a sample power point. davispe / Mission Nutrition 3rd.pptx
About a year ago I stumbled upon The PE Geek. He had filmed himself doing stretches and exercises properly and then had qr codes linked to those Youtube videos. He could then watch different activities all at the same time and know that there was proper instruction at each location. He even used qr codes on a skeleton for students to review the bones.
Tech in Gym is great!
