One of my goals every year for me and my students is to be more efficient. So, anytime something comes along that can help us do our work more efficiently, I'm all for it. The ultrabook is ultra light, ultra mobile, and ultra fast. It combines the best features a tablet with the best features of a laptop, so you get the best of both worlds. This year, my students are using ultra slow desktops that are near EOL (end-of-life) and year-old netbooks which are much better than the heavy, slow laptops we had previously. But, from the sound of it, the ultrabook would make the netbooks we currently have seem like grannies rather than onesies (no offense to grandma's anywhere). As a bonus, there's no underestimating the power of motivation. And hardware such as ultrabooks are highly motivating.

When I first read the original post, the first thing I thought of was one of my favorite super heroes as a kid: Ultraman. I watched his show religiously. The Ultrabook could be like the Ultraman of the classroom, battling sluggish boot-up times, overcoming the inability to input data efficiently into wikis and spreadsheets, and working for the good of efficiency in education.

For those who would like to see Ultraman in action, view this:

I'd love to see Ultrabook in action, first hand.

    The definition of ultra is:

    • extreme: exceeding or going beyond all other of the same kind

This truly explains why the Ultrabook is important to anyone in education.  Anytime you have the opportunity to go beyond with students, you are creating new experiences for those kids that may not have those chances.  The Ultrabook is essentially another tool to enhance the education of students.  What a great resource!

Based on the concept that the prefix "Ultra" means extreme, this is the RIGHT machine for me . The current laptop I use comes in at just over five pounds. A drop of two pounds would be awesome. I like riding my bike to work - this loss of weight would greatly benefit my figure. I can also see how much easier it will make it for me to help other teachers as I take it to their classrooms to demonstrate ways to use technology.

I also like how easily it could be used to pass between students as they work on projects. I'm less concerned about "dropping events" when the laptop is lightweight. It already makes me want to start new projects for students to do.

The one that came to my mind immediately is an activity I had my students do outside.  They were collecting toothpicks of different colors scattered on the ground as fast as they could in a given time period.  The idea was to teach the concept of inherited traits and how they help an organism survive.  Anyway, I would use the Ultrabook to record the data the number of toothpicks collected because it would be easy to take outside and as soon as I got back to the classroom I could show the data instantly.  I could also show them what a good bar graph would look like with that specific data and compare class data as well.  It would be great!

I like how your idea brings immediacy to this science activity. I can imagine the accuracy of such a graph would help your students understand accuracy of data reporting. It also might be fun to use the camera on the UltraBook to record your students in action.

I work in the Language Arts Curriculum dept in my school district as a technology specialist. My primary role is to integrate technology into our districtwide curriculum. In addition, I work a lot with the technology specialists in the other core content areas (Math, Social Studies, and Science). We are also tasked with supporting the actual implementation of the integration (Try to say that three times, quickly!) on campuses from K-12. Because I am always on the move at meetings, campuses, and professional development, an Ultrabook would be an Ultra-huge help in making my work more portable!

As with many who have already posted, I also work to help teachers use and integrate technology into the schools.  I am often traveling from classroom to classroom if not from building to building.  Right now, I try to rely on having a charged tablet of my own to use for these instances.  This is not always convenient due to the limitations of a tablet computer. An Ultrabook would be great to have due to its portability while still having the convenience of using a computer versus a tablet.  I can not in all honesty say that I need one more than anyone else that has posted, but would still appreciate winning one for use within the schools.

Just saw this commercial yesterday and thought it was pretty good.

I still say that a big draw to Ultrabooks is that they are so lightweight which makes them more portable than a traditional laptop.

I carry my tablet, stand, and BT keyboard to and from meetings right now so that I don't have to lug around my teacher laptop. It sounds bad, but it better than relying on the battery in it.  I believe that Ultrabooks have better battery life as well.

Thanks for the reminder of battery life. I started off my year with a laptop with a bad battery. I knew the battery was bad when I got the error message "Battery not charging." what a great reason o use an "Ultrabook."

We should have a survey ... "How long does your laptop battery last?" my new battery has a 85 minute life (much better than not charging.)

This will allow my students to collaborate with students across the world to see there is more than on way to analyze life's problems. I think the Ultrabook will be a very beneficial tool in my teaching, training and facilitating career.

I wonder if switching out our netbooks with the small screens for ultrabooks would be more feasible from a monetary standpoint rather than having full fledged laptops for the students? The little screens on a netbook just do not promote a lot of what is done in the classroom to the point a larger screen could. The students are more occupied with scrolling around trying to see everything presented to them. CD Roms are going the way of the floppy anymore with cloud storage options that are free and cheaper and cheaper flash drives so an optical drive wouldn't be necessary. Although this currently is not available on our netbooks. Hmmmmm... I guess I'm sort of thinking "out loud" here.

      Chad,

I understand the challenge of netbook screen size. My laptop at school is a MacBook Pro. I've tried Windows emulators on it, but cannot get all the software I need for my various duties to run on it. I take my personal Netbook to school and use it almost daily. I'm now at the point where I can navigate without having to scroll right and left (just up and down.) I keep all my school files for the Netbook in the cloud. It would be an easy transition to use an Ultrabook  instead of the Netbook. I think the weight should be equal. There are a few programs I use with my Data assignment that would benefit from a larger screen. Thanks so much for the reminder of how an Ultrabook could easily replace a Netbook.

Are there any programs teachers or students use that would still require an optical drive?

For the youth of today, computers are like an extension of their body. Even little kids will sit down at a new electronic device with NO FEAR!  To excell in computer usage and move into 21st century abilities students need to learn so much. I work with hearing impaired students. Hearing impaired students  might play the games, but without direct assistance they will never become proficient. To Be able to learn a student needs to have a computer, and my classroom has no student computers. I have two different teaching assignments. In the mornings, I teach a reading program to elemtary hearing impaired students from 4 years old through 5th grade.  In the afternoon, I teach middle school language Arts.   During my morning "itinerant" classes  there is a computer component to my lessons. I do have access to a laptop, however it is older and quite heavy to carry around. I would love an Ultrabook that is quick, lightweight, and easy to unpack and use. In my afternoon classes, when  we use technology, we go next door and barrow a computer.  It would be so exciting to have access to a computer when ever we needed to venture into cyber space.  I bring every opportunity that I can to make my class a virtual experience where students can reach beyond their deafness and into a world of infinit possibilities. I want to take my students into the undiscovered country of the future.

I work with Special Ed. students, and I would use the Ultrabook to present lessons to my students.  Technology is a key component of their curriculum.  Many of them may never go further than 25 miles outside of the county, and that will be to go to the doctor in Richmond.   Any way that I can bring the exciting world to them is important, needed, and an asset.  The Ultrabook will get them out of the pocket of one-diminisional learning, and open up a multi-dimentional world that lets them feel that they are there through virtual learning, hands-on interactive lessons, and creative development opportunities.  Winning the Ultrabook would surpass them being special ed., it would make them feel like "special" winners and learners in a high tech world.

The beauty of the new Intel Ultrabook within the HP Folio series is that it provides up to 9.5 hours of batterylife.  This now allows for any educator to be highly productive during their work day- or in the evening while working on lessonplan development- and not worrying about to find the nearest plugin to recharge.

The portability, light weight, and long battery life are the features that made me a “Believer” in the UltraBook.  These three features will help me take my lessons beyond the classroom walls.  I love to teach history through genealogy projects.  Taking a field trip to a local cemetery to find and photograph the grave sites of people who lived during the civil war or other historical periods can be fascinating.  The UltraBook would help with the capture of this information while students research the background of the people who have gone before them.  By examining the past we can appreciate the challenges, sacrifices, and accomplishments of those who came before us.  The UltraBook would help us document the past and inspire future generations.

I've only bought one intel digital tool, which was the intel Microscope. I've seen the Ultrabook commercials and Intel sites with this product. I thought a lot what Ultrabook will do for me and my students??
After prolonged deliberation I have concluded that it is really going to help me a lot in many ways. It will help and facilitate me in my pedagogy practices in class and my teacher training activities regarding technology integration. At the classroom level it will help me in effectively craft instruction that prepared my students engaged in collaboration, critical thinking, problem-solving through PBL, and other 21st Century Skills and ultimately make them self directed.

The long battery time Ultrabook is another feature which is the most beneficial for the vicinities like ours which is facing acute power shortage and almost unimaginable wastage of energy and time due to electricity crisis in Pakistan.
With its new and advance features I would be able to inspire many to integrate technology into their class and explore the magical world of information technology.

The first thing that comes to mind is I will be a billionaire!!  A billion bytes... a dream.. and only 3 lbs!  What appeals to me most is the speed this little guy has!  Speed and memory, at my age are the most important to me.  When I want to show a student something quickly, it is not so easily accomplished now, but with this Ultrabook, it appears that it will be something that can be accomplished.

I rarely take my laptop home from school these days.  It is slow and it is heavy.  I want a machine that will allow me to change webpages, create google docs, work on a moodle, and communicate quickly.. As quickly as my ideas come to me, I want to be able to implement them.  New google docs, new moodle entries, new web pages, new learning!  are all things I anticipate doing with my Ultrabook.

I also want to be able to create docs and experiences that move my students toward doing their own programming.  They can make games already, but I need to learn more myself and it appears the Ultrabook is the machine to help me do this.  Starting this summer, I'd like to pick up the moodle again.  I tried once, but then, I was too slow.  With my new Ultrabook, I'm sure this will help me create, develop and share new learning opportunities for my students.

Thanks for this great opportunity, Intel!

There is a very old saying " A picture is worth a thousand words".  For deaf/ hearing impaired children that saying is "Oh So True."  There are millions of words out there that rely on speaking and hearing.  Deaf children might see the combination of letters, and learn either to spell or sign the word, however for many, it is that visual representation that turns on the light bulb and imprints the meaning in the pathways of their brains.  An Ultrabook would allow me to travel around with a billion plus chances for those hearing impaired students to break down barriers, all in just 3 pounds.  How wonderful to have such access when a student does know what fiber-optics are. I can open up my Ultrabook and in an instant have a picture and description of the word in question.  Deaf children need technology to help close the gap in education. How wonderful to have a fantastically quick piece of technology to help them jump the hurdles.

Wow, I am behind, over 2000 likes and I am just seeing the contest drawing.  Of course having a new fast laptop would help in my classroom, and the fact that it's an Ultrabook is awesome, so light.  I am using a laptop that is at the end of its life right now, battery won't charge, fan is broken, and no storage space. So great timing to enter a contest.  I teach CAD, 3D modeling, etc. and this current laptop won't run the software that the students use in my lab, so a new one would enable me to have the same versions as the students are working on, and make it easier for demos and creating tutorials.

I would love to be able to have this tool to use in my classroom! So many times my students have asked to see real life images on topics we've been discussing. Due to a limited budget at my school, we're unable to have a laptop in the classroom. I would be able to have them watch videos on our topics and open up our discussions even more! I teach PreK, so seeing is believing sometimes! In addition to large group activities, I encourage those small group activities and one on one computer time with other websites to strengthen those individual goals. Sometimes our programed old dinosaur computers don't cut it. It would benefit not only my classroom, but other teachers and students in my building as well.
