As you probably know, we like to give out prizes. We give out prizes during webinars, prizes for discussion activities, prizes for community games, and prizes via social media. As a key piece of the Teachers Engage community is technology, and many of our fellow members are geeks and techies, we love to give away cool gadgets as prizes. We know what kinds of cool gadgets we like, but the question is: what do you like?
Teachers Engage admin team member Darren Cambridge has started an Amazon Wish List of potential prizes, and we'd like you to help us add to that list. Click here to check out the list, then reply to this discussion with ideas for additional prizes.
Looks like the list is a great one. I would also love to see the prize list to include gift cards to various places. (newegg.com, cyberguys.com, etc) At one time, there were kindles as prizes. That also was super great.
How about a mobile phone microscope? Turn Your Cellphone Into a High-Powered Scientific Microscope | Wired Science | Wired.com
Not sure where those can be purchased, but I had heard that they are under $20.
I love the Grid-it for travel with gadgets Amazon.com: Cocoon CPG10BK GRID-IT Organizer, 12 x 8 Inch, Black: Electronics It is nice to have everything in one place and organized! Mine is not that big but they do come in different sizes. I always get tons of compliments on mine even from airport security. You should be able to order and put the logo/website on it!
Glen and Susan, I've added your great suggestions to the wish list. Carolyn, that is so cool! I spent a bit of time searching and wasn't able to find anyone selling a kit to create turn your phone into a microscope. It seems like a great opportunity for somebody to make some money at Etsy. If someone does start selling them, they'll definitely go on the list!
Since I had time while waiting today, I researched the 360 camera Tom shared this weekend. It appears we saw the Kogeto Panoramic Accessory for iPhone 4. I hope Tom will verify if this is the right lens.
I am not sure how well this accessory might work with other devices. I, however, will quickly state it was very cool! Perhaps this would be a great addition to the Prize Inventory.
Glen, Yep, that's the lens. I also like the GoPano lens (about the same price $59.00).
Rapoo makes a nice Bluetooth headset. The microphone is omnidirectional (and not visible when wearing the headset.) Based on the high number of Bluetooth enabled computers, this might be an excellent choice.
I'm thinking it is about time for all geeks to upgrade their electrical outlets. I've been trying to figure out how difficult it will be to have the electricians change my room's outlets so they are all Newer Technology Power2U AC Wall Outlets with USB Charging Ports. Does anyone else think these are the COOLEST ?
OK...so I thought this would be a fun gift...a portable charger for cell phone, ipod . It was the TSV on QVC today (yes, I am a home shopping addict). They sold out so it was super popular! HALO 2800mAh Pocket Power Charger for Cellphones & Electronics — QVC.com
I love all the goodies mentioned above. I would like to see some digital cameras, I know they are so expensive. I do not have a tablet with a camera, so a digital camera comes in handy. Oooh, what about some kind of tablet as a grand prize. I like the external chargers for the iPads, cell phones, etc. I am always running out of juice since I am a traveling teacher. Flash drives would be nice. Maybe some mini mice.
Thanks for asking us for our opinions.
Currently, there are some excellent deals on Digital Cameras. I've been eying the Nikon COOLPIX S3300 camera for some time. It has 16 MP and a 6x zoom! The current price on Amazon.com is $69.95 (which is 50% off the normal price!)
oooooooooooooooooooo I like the Kensington PilotMouse. This mini-mouse works with either a PC or Mac computer. There is no need to plug into a usb port since almost every computer has Bluetooth today.
I was disappointed when Cisco announced they would stop production of the Flip Mino. I've searched a lot to find an alternative. My current favorite is the Kodak PlaySport Zx5. This waterproof camera records 1080p video or 5 meg still shots. One factor that impresses me is how the Kodak PlaySport has an autofocus feature. This MIGHT be an appropriate alternative to the Flip Mino camera.
What do you think?
OK - this is over the top! A Kingston 1-terabyte flash drive is supposed to be out in 2013.
I'm confident EVERYONE would want this!
I might be repeating some ideas, but here's a list from me!
High capacity memory cards (This collection contains micro SDHC cards/adaptors. I bet any type of memory would be welcomed!
Excellent cover/case/keyboards for iPads. They do wear out, and there's always something new!
Any brand of high-capacity external hard drives...and a case for travel?
Bluetooth speakers! I love my Bravens! What a great way to share sound (with vids, etc) in the classroom, so everyone can hear!
Fitbit One! This little gem can go into your pocket, clip to your waistband, or even to your bra- it tracks stairs climbed, steps, distance, and even your sleep patterns! Its online program syncs to your phone, iPad, or other device...and online you can enter your food intake, etc. I just got one and love it! Small, secure, and motivatiing1 Wouldn't a teacher love to know how far they walk in school each day? It might help teachers to motivate their students toward more activity, and we know research confirms that fit people learn better!
Love the growing list here! Great ideas, everyone!
It's now available at Amazon! The Celluon Magic Cube Laser Projection Keyboard and Touchpad. Connecting via USB or Bluetooth to provide a virtual external keyboard to any device. I'm thinking EVERYONE needs one of these!
