I check in each day to see how many new members have joined the community around the world. It's quite exciting! Did you know we have members in Peru, Albania, and the Czech Republic? Intel Education programs are expanding worldwide and improving education in many countries.
Please introduce yourself here and tell us a bit about your education duties. Many people will be starting a new term soon...please tell us what would make your job easier- especially as it pertains to using Project-Based Learning in your situation. Or, tell us what new practice you will be trying out in the next term!
Did you notice the "Bunny Person" image? Any time you see that image at the beginning of a discussion, it means that the discussion is incentivized. There will be a great prize drawn at the end of December from the names of all who introduce themselves in this discussion!

I have just finished my module in Assessment in the 21st Century Assessment and presently taking the Project-Based Approaches. I am learning a lot in these modules and would want very much to practice them in actual teaching. I am looking forward to reading more and being able to analyse myself and my teaching strategies and learn new methods through these webinars from Intel. Thank you.
Hello everyone, my name is Mary Mwangi and I have been in educational industry for 16 years. I have taught students in prek-12. Currently I am a middle school science teacher, educational trainer and instructional designer at KeelWorks foundation. I'm new to Intel community and resources and looking forward to learn from you.
Hello, my name is Joseph Thompson. I'm starting just my fifth year of teaching of what I hope to be a long career. I see teaching as a vocation and I'm always looking for ways to be a better teacher. I studied for my BA in Liberal Arts at Thomas Aquinas College and earned my MA in English from Ole Miss.
Right now, I'm leading a project as a private tutor in a classroom with three siblings, 15, 11, & 10, where there are different learning disabilities at work. I am devoted to PBL as a primary technique in all subject areas; I rack my brain constantly for new project ideas. I'm excited to glean from and contribute to this forum.
Welcome to Dheera, Judith, Mary, Joseph, and Lorielynn! Thank you all for posting your introductions! I love this community! Take a bit of time to explore from the front page, rather than from your own training group. You will find there is a LOT of information here? If you are looking for specific information, please let me know and I will try to guide you!
Hello Sir Bonnie! I am Mark Tapispisan Daroy from the Philippines. It's my fifth year of teaching now in a rural public integrated school here in our municipality. I am presently handling loads in the secondary department, specifically Social Studies in Grade VIII and Basic Computer Education.
I am really happy in joining this group of intellectual people in the field because I know they can help me a lot especially in my way teaching. I know that I will learn more techniques and strategies that will help in the attainment of my daily lesson objectives.
Our school is quite fortunate of having computer units used in our computer laboratory. Though minimal only in number, still it will be of big help. With this, I am not just the one who will be equipped but my students as well. Their ignorance in Information and Communications Technology will be banished.
Now comes the Intel Teach. With this, I am for sure will not be left behind in the latest trends in teaching.
Hola y bienvenido a ti! También estoy seguro de que usted aprenderá de esta comunidad. Asegúrese de explorar algunas de las discusiones enlazadas desde la página principal. Y date un poco de tiempo para aprender su manera alrededor. Es un área grande en línea!
Sra. Bonnie Feather
I went to a Common Core Training sponsored by the NCDPI at UNC-Charlotte last week. They suggested that I join the website to explore discussions. I enjoy incorporating technology in my 7th grade social studies class. I currently use webquests, multimedia presentations, edmodo(quizzes, assignments, etc...), and other software within my classroom.
Excellent, Chad! Were you perhaps working with Gail Holmes? Gail is very active here and leads some very interesting discussions with particular interest for North Carolina teachers. If you are not participating already in this discussion regarding Common Core in the classroom, particularly the NC version of CCSS, you might find some good ideas here.
Welcome, and don't hesitate to send me a private message (by clicking on my name any time it is linked) if you need assistance.
Good morning, received a warm greeting from Lima, Peru. Usually I write and speak in Spanish, but with this technology know that nothing is impossible.
I teach in the art or art course at the secondary level in a public school district Vitarte. This work. This project-based learning seems a wonderful opportunity to obtain a final product is a form that shows what has been learned. In art we can say that usually work this way, individual jobs are done well in teams where the result is always a product. Raising activities with the use of the XO Laptop 1.5 which gives the ministry and work with them in the course of art seemed genuinely tedious, but I am aware that I must adapt and so I am considering a project in which I'm getting really wanted, I hope everything is as planned.
I send you a big hug waiting to read some of the experiences of the area have art and can share with me.
Thanks and another chance.
Hi, Bonnie -
Thank you for the warm welcome. I am joining from Jive Software, the company that creates this community platform. I am excited to see how you are engaging and enabling educators globally! I have a masters from NYU and did my thesis project on collaborative technologies in education so this subject is of great interest to me personally!
How exciting! I rarely get to meet F2F with community members, and I got to meet you today! It was a real pleasure to learn more about your role with the Jive platform!
Thanks for coming in, Jenn, and please don't hesitate to contact me in the community with any questions about how we are using it.
Hello I am Jonathan Florida Garzon a secondary school teacher of Bayugan National Comprehensive High School, Bayugan City, Mindanao, Philippines. I hold a Masters Degree in Instructional Media and Design. This site was referred to me by my colleague. I am applying PBL as one of my instructional materials in my teaching strategies and it was effective, but still i want to learn more PBL teaching style especially integrating it to ICT. Hoping to be a part of this learning - teaching community.

My name is Jennifer Foley and I have been working at Education Service Center, Region 20 in Texas for 3 1/2 years. I am currently a Technical Support Specialist for the Texas Education Agency's Project Share Initiative, where educators from across the state connect, create, and collaborate with each other through networking and online course participation. We are currently offering 5 self-paced Intel courses for staff development and are working on introducing facilitated Intel courses as well.
I graduate with my Master's this December in Early Childhood Education from the University of Texas at San Antonio.
It's a pleasure meeting you and I look forward to browsing Engage.
My name is Annie Antat and I originate from the extremely beautiful islands of the Seychelles found in the Indian Ocean. I have been teaching for almost 5 years now in a state primary school. The students I teach are aged between 8 and 12. I am a generalist teacher but since I love Maths and Science the most therefore I specialise within the two subjects and since I also love the French language and because of a shortage of French teachers I am actually teaching one French class.
I recently took part in a 35 hours of Classroom Management by Mythware training on Intel-powered classmate PCs held in Seychelles and we are now trying to implement the software in my and other teachers teaching. The future looks brighter for both students and teachers. My wish is to learn more of how I can integrate ICT within my daily teaching through teacher engage.
Your post brings to the fore again the wide diversity of educator experience to be found here in the Engage community! I would be first in line if there were an opportunity to visit each and every member, since I love to travel and meet new friends. Instead of actually traveling, I get to meet you all "virtually," and learn more about how education in general and technology in education are being practiced around the globe.
Welcome, and thank you for your introduction!
Hi, My name is Meagan Parrish and I am a newbie as a technology facilitator. This is my sixth year teaching. I taught 3rd grade for 3 years and 4th grade for 2 years. I love working with technology and am currently working towards my Masters in Instructional Technology. I am at the point where I need all the help I can get!! My favorite technology tools are those that keep the students engaged and are user friendly for the teachers. They have so much on their plates already that I don't want to add more. I want to show them things that can make their lives easier!!
Hello, everyone. My name is Diane Sekul. My official title is Distance Education Specialist at Region III Education Service Center (Texas Education Agency) in Victoria, Texas. This is a small office, so I have many other duties besides distance education. Let's just say my job description ends with, " ...and a partridge in a pear tree."
I'm currently enrolled in a facilitated version of the online Intel Collabortion course. Intel is making the content available to all 20 of the service centers in Texas so we can eventually offer the facilitated version to our school districts. First, though, we have to be "students" in the course.
I'm looking forward to working with all of the wonderful teachers around the world who are part of this community.
p.s. It's a chilly 76 degrees F here in south Texas. Have to get out the sweaters!
Diane, welcome to the Intel Engage Community. I know you will find the people here so very willing to help when asked. One of the main strengths of this community is the diverse backgrounds that make collaboration great.
I had to laugh, it's a very balmy 65 degrees here in Northern Arizona, but I guess it's what you're accustomed to.
Again, welcome to the community.
Jeanna, welcome to the community. How exciting to be in your first year as a Technology Facilitator. So many toys, so little time! This is a great community with great people who are willing to share their talents both as tech users and teachers. I also look forward to learning from you.
Hi! My name is Sarah Putnam and I am an elementary School Library Media Coordinator in North Carolina. I have worked in elementary schools for thirteen years with nine of them being in the media center. I think that the project based learning approach to teaching and learning is essential in preparing our students for the 21st century work place. Currently, I am working towards introducing the blended classroom approach in my school. In doing this, I am piloting Edmodo with a couple classes this term and hoping to bring the respective classroom teachers into the equation next term. I look forward to the idea sharing that this community has to offer.
Thanks! Right now I am meeting with a 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade class for 20 - 50 minutes per week on Edmodo. I give the classes tasks or assignments to complete independently online while they are with me. Right now, we are working on using and having the students see our online community as a learning tool and not somewhere to "play" and chat with classmates. I hope to bring the 5th grade classroom teacher into the community after Christmas.
Hello my name is Crystal Heyland and I teach the academically gifted 4th and 5th graders in NC. I am taking the Intel Teach Program Essentials Course next week as I am interested in learning more about incorporating technology into each unit. I also do a lot of project based learning, and have used blogs, glogs and wikis with my students and am always interested in learning new ways of getting them to learn through technology and to collaborate with others around the wolrd. I look forward to the new information and ideas I will learn from this community!
Hello. My name is Kim Bishop and I am a middle school science teacher in Jamestown, NC. I spent my first 6 years teaching 6th grade, and currenly I am teaching 8th.I have been researching PBL and I am looking forward to some practical ways to incorporate it into my lessons with the resources I have. I am excited to be a part of this group.
HI. My name is Annie Reid and I am an elementary media coordinator. I have been at the same school for 14 years. This year we have a new principal, but she was also our AP for the past 4 years. Because of the new ITES, she thought it would be a great idea to have the technology facilitator and me team-teach all classes and call it medi-ology. She envisioned us using a PBL approach to our instruction. I am all for PBL. I have received professional development training in PBL and I am sad to say that what I learned about the concept and what we have done with the students thus far does not reflect the PBL concept. I want our students to be successful 21st century learners. I am open for any and all ideas and suggestions that will help the two of us get on the same page.
Hi Bonnie, my name is Anita and I am an elementary school teacher/librarian/media coordinator in a Title I school in North Carolina. We are a high poverty school with over 25% of our children ELL. My colleagues in the pre-K through 5th grade classrooms are working very hard this year to implement the CCSS curriculum. I am helping them as much as I can and constantly looking for new resources for them. They are using technology that is new to many of them. This is actually a good thing for me because they are learning and using new technology and the library in ways that many have felt that they didn't have time for in previous years. I'm excited to be taking the Intel training in Greensboro this week because I know that I will learn many new strategies and tech that will help all of our teachers and children.
I am excited and a bit nervous about joining the training this week. I am the Media Specialist and Technology Contact at The Academy at Lincoln, a Guilford County (NC) Magnet school for 4-8th grades. We offer a performing arts program for all of our students. In addition to our magnet students and our neighborhood students, We also house the district’s Advanced Learners, Very Strong Program for students who qualify: (97th percentile or higher on aptitude test; 97th percentile or higher on achievement tests in reading and math and 93rd percentile or higher in science and social studies; report card grades of As in four main curriculum areas for last two quarters (must be maintained)). All of our 4th and 5th graders are in the VS program and many of them continue through middle school. This is my 18th year as a Media Specialist. Before coming to Lincoln, I worked at 4 other schools which collectively gave me a background in the various aspects that make our school unique. Most of the years were in elementary school, and my favorite units were elementary school units. However this year, I want to build more collaborative relationships with middle school teachers. I approached one of our 7th grade ELA teachers about doing this and received a warm response, so I am optimistic. However, we just started talking about it and I don’t have a concrete plan yet (the nervous part). I am also thinking that PBL and increased Technology use will integrate well with my tentative plans to renew National Boards this year! Thanks,
My name is Jon McSween and I teach 7th grade ss at Jamestown and AP World History for NCVPS. I am bringing in a unit in which students create a virtual museum exhibit because it can be used with almost any unit in a history course. I am excited to learn more about using a variety of web tools to help students stay engaged and organized and ways to manage PBL better so that some students are not finished while others are not even half way through the project.
My name is Linda Younts and I am a reading specialist at Irving Park Elementary. I am still uncertain about a unit since I teach guided reading groups, but I would like to work on somehting that will engage my students in reading and writing opportunites using technology based programs.
My name is Dwayne Tate and I am a middle school mathematics (6-8) teacher from Winston-Salem, NC. I am also certified to teach Social Studies (grades 6-9). I am interested to see how technology can be incorporated in the field of math to enhance student achievement, especially with the standards related to the new common core approach. I have completed a Problem-Based Learning course through Wake Forest, which relates to Project-Based Learning where students either work individually or collectively to reach a solution to a scenario. Each approach is a student-centered initiative that allows for the student to use prior knowledge to form a comprehensive solution.
Hello Bonnie....glad to be here. My name is Lisa Ochs and I am an ESL teacher on Long Island, NY. I am also certified as a reading specialist. I've been gaining new insights into technology due to the webinars provided in the Teachers Engage Community..so applaud all those teachers involved in the webinars, you've inspired me to be more involved with technology. I have been a bit of a technophobe, and I am still learning about all the opportunities available. I look forward to becoming more involved with teachers engage and the Intel Elements Courses.
Hello everyone. . . I am Keith Schroeder, Library Media Director for the school district of Marinette in Marinette, WIsconsin (just north of Green Bay . . . Hello, everyone! My name is Annette Whitby, and I teach business law I and II online for Park University. I have taught legal studies for 9 years, and I enjoy the challenge of keeping students engaged in our online learning community. I also have a twin sister named Anita - Yep, you guessed it. She also teaches business law I and II for Park University. This has been an exciting year for us because we have made so many connections with k12 teachers. What a wonderful learning experience it has been. Some of the fun things Anita and I are doing in our classrooms this quarter are: Using badges ( www.classbadges.com ), using class polls ( www.mentimeter.com ), and using Glogster and Wallwisher to post vocabulary lists and reminders. I think my favorite tool of all is Symbaloo ( www.symbaloo.com ).
