The girl child has traditionally been perceived as having subdued participation in areas that require highly specialized technical and cognitive abilities. This has influenced lack of sustained performance and eventual success in academic practices they engage in, particularly science, computers, technology & mathematics education. As today’s knowledge economy demands for a highly skilled, highly educated workforce that has the ability to work independently and creatively, it is very important that populations that are underrepresented in above mentioned fields – ‘girls’ - are provided with opportunities to jump start their interest for life at the earliest.
Aim / Objective
With the aim to increase awareness among the concerned stakeholders - teachers/ principals and parents and provide exposure to the girl child of this new and interesting arena of science and technology based options for studies and career - TechGirlz– a specialized program was initiated by Intel Foundation.
TechGirlz has been designed as a focused program for Girls - with the clear objective to inspire and engage girl children in the age group of 6 – 14 years. It is an academic enrichment curriculum laid out as a series of independent activities. The objective is to engage students in hands-on STEM and design activities that enhance knowledge, and problem solving skill in the areas of science, engineering, technology, math’s etc.The overall arching aim is to develop an interest in design and discovery element and develop their computational skills along with
- Providing an early exposure to STEM so as to kindle the spirit of exploration

About the Program
Under the TechGirlz program, DIY Camps will be organised in schools, museums, science centres etc. for Girls. The objective of a DIY camp is to inculcate interest for research and science, the ability to think innovatively and develop computational skills while understanding the design element. Each of the camp would have a series of science and technology based activities on the line of Do It Yourself (DIY) all focussed towards introducing the girl children to the interesting world of science and technology. Each of the activity has been designed with the aim to bring out the essence of design element and explain science in the most simplest of the manner while also keeping the fun element intact.Tech Girlz
