clawil Sep 27, 2014 1:30 AM (in response to sadi)Sadia,
I am using some concept from Singapore Math that I took at a summer conference. The students learn using the concrete, next, pictorials, then the abstract concepts of math. If they can understand the concrete, drawing a picture of the concrete helps them to transfer their knowledge to paper. After that, students can understand the more abstract ideas. I am implementing this technique in my classroom. It is working well. If the students do well in math, the critical thinking skills they learn in math transfer to other subjects.

DrJavedAkhtar Sep 28, 2014 2:22 AM (in response to sadi)It depends upon broadly two things (1)Level of Education and branch (2)Target Group (Even individual differences/special needs within the group). Need assessment is essential at the beginning.

Re: what is the best way to teach mathematics and students can easily understand
raffakwa Oct 4, 2014 2:06 AM (in response to DrJavedAkhtar)Is assessment will really must be at the beginning? Why not at the end?

Re: what is the best way to teach mathematics and students can easily understand
sanjaybhil Sep 28, 2014 5:54 AM (in response to sadi)I agree with what Clarence Willis has said.
I would like to add one more thing which I think is important for students to learn mathematics efficiently. The content that is being given to students in the form of concrete , pictures etc should be contextualized. These should be from their surrounding. If these are presented to them in their native language (if language is an issue) then it will be an added advantage.

Re: what is the best way to teach mathematics and students can easily understand
raffakwa Oct 4, 2014 2:10 AM (in response to sanjaybhil)And another the views and perspective of the students towards math subject should be change. Sometimes, even if the lesson in math is easy but it was program already on their minds that math is hard, that's why even the easiest lesson in math becomes harder.

Re: what is the best way to teach mathematics and students can easily understand
tdiener Sep 30, 2014 6:26 PM (in response to sadi)For me the best way to teach mathematics is to develop a student's curiosity about mathematics; engage them through magic of mathematics. On of the best presentations I ever heard was by Alan Kay; he made the subject of math magical. Discovery has a wonderful website about curiosity; included are a couple videos by Alan Kay.

raffakwa Oct 3, 2014 11:48 PM (in response to tdiener)To be particular? What method of teaching are you going to use to better understand the lesson in mathematics? And what activities are you planning?

Re: what is the best way to teach mathematics and students can easily understand
raffakwa Oct 3, 2014 11:47 PM (in response to sadi)This is a very good question because most of the students find difficulties in understanding math subjects.
