Hello Amita , What we know is one of the greatest issues teachers are facing are large class strengths where the number is 40 -45 students and more. So where is personalised /individual time for each students ? and again time for documentation for the teacher?

The schools where ideal class size is followed than those schools become out of bound for many parents. As the cost of education in such schools gets beyond reach. So with technology and with new innovative pedagogies coming into fore teachers and school management should adopt them and focus more on student- centre approach where they make student responsible for their learning and also responsible for class management. What is required is developing the most important quality of responsibility, ethical and moral sense and collaboration.

Is it applicable in all conditions?

Ideally, it should be around 20-25 however here in the Philippines, the public schools accommodate as many as 60 with an average of 45 per class in highly populated areas. The ideal class size is applicable to all conditions with the exception of classes catering to the needs of special children. However, budget constraints is one of the major concerns and this transcends to the limited number of teachers since, teacher salary and hiring expenses are also a part of the budget together with the limited number of infrastructure. It is truly perplexing how advanced other nations already are in the field of technology while some nations still face ancient problems. Hoping that this networking of ideas among all nations involved in education will bring to solution some of these pressing problems so we can collectively advance as a humanity in search of enlightenment.

In India class Size varies from 60-20 depending on the Type of Schools , mostly in Government schools strength factor plays a minimal factor as they rate high number of attendance as a success factor where in Private schools 15-20 is ideally called a Good class as teacher can give one on one attention Here we can see technology is a savior where big strength classes become suddenly very Vibrant and teacher also finds it easy to reach out to every student !!

In the Philippines, most highly populated class are government schools. In private schools there are 30-40, rarely is there a class size of 20. The difference is that, government schools are not well-equipped with technology in one on one ratio. We do have schools who have this advantage but mostly technology is still not prevalent in remote areas which make classroom management and instruction very difficult for the teacher.

Teachers are very happy if we have that ideal number of pupils but in reality it is not. I'm teaching in elementary public school in Baguio and we are still blessed to have 35-40 in one class because in the secondary they have 50-60 pupils. Well, we need still to give our best as teachers for the sake of our pupils.
